~A Sheckyville Visit~
Saturday we were greeted by a beautiful Peacock in the yard as we were leaving the house. We noticed him just standing there as if waiting to come in the door. He has been in the neighborhood for the past few days or so and just seemed to enjoy meandering, but when we saw him at our door, it was a wonderful sight to see.

After our adoring him for a while, we realized how familiar he was around us. We assumed he was being taken care of and just lost. He kept hanging around the door and gate, so we did open up the back gate to see if he would wander in and enjoy the fountain. Sure enough, he followed us in and to the back porch. Not only did he wander in and make himself at home on the couch, but he allowed me to take some photos of him while he curiously looked about.

Calling a neighbor, I found out where he came from and touched base with the owner/caretaker. I informed him we had him in the yard and then he told me the story of Pavo & Real.
Pavo & Real were two of a kind and buddies. Both males and the owner said he could barely tell them apart. They were outdoor birds and did meander their neighborhood quite frequently. However, when the fire came and destroyed the trees where they lived the birds flew off in fear and one was never seen again. Since then, this one has been too scared to go back to the fire burned area where he once was familiar. He runs around honking and from what I hear, he has been taken care of by a few in the neighborhood. I have been calling him Peaty The Peacock but now that I know (sort of know), his name I can call him Pavo or Real.

He told me I could feed him with dog food which I have plenty of, so that was no problem and he did gobble it up along with some bugs and such in the garden.
He seemed to be comfy on the back porch. I was getting a bit nervous he would go onto the side hill where the coyote trail is, but he stayed in place and when I disappeared inside, he stood waiting.

The feathers on the crown of the head really amazed me. Some of these photos aren’t very still but you can see there are many feathers shooting straight up from just that section of his head.
None of these photos have been retouched. I say that because when the light hit his feathers his coloring would change with the lighting. It was just stunning to watch from light to shadow to light again.
His feet were amazing too.

He did eventually just casually walk away. Every now and then he looked back as if to come back, but he did leave. I guess he had enough conversation and food.
Til next time,
Mrs. Shecky
Stunning! I’ve got loads of peacock photos but not one good enough to share. These are amazing. I hope he will do OK!
They are so beautiful up close, aren’t they!
Wonderful guest…
He sure was🙂
👍🏻
Beautiful photos of your peacock … they are very endearing animals. We have a park where they can roam free but sometimes they get adventurous and cross the road to the residential area. Funny thing is they almost always use the crosswalk!!
Nice. You’ve made a new feathered friend 🙂
What a wonderful encounter! 😊
It was a nice surprise and a perfect day to meet him 🙂
Wow, I’m glad you now have more information on this sweet bird! So beautiful, I bet he’ll be back for more dog food. ❤️
I hope so John, I like him 🙂
We have so many peafowl at our Florida home and I love them (a lot of people don’t). Good close-up pics, so nice you could get that close. They are usually very nervous and scatter. Or, when mating they sometimes try to be intimidating.
I absolutely love them! You are so lucky to have their beauty. I’m wishing I could have a few here 🙂
A wonderful uninvited guest!!
He sure was and I hope he comes back. He made my yard look good 🙂
Your back yard always looks good!!! Although a peacock is a most wonderful decorators accessory hehe 😉
