~A Special Chair~
I was given a most precious chair by a most precious cousin. This is my Great Aunt Carrie’s little rocker and it is a special part of me now. She is the one who gave me my first tomato taste off the vine right from her own backyard, and that alone kindled my love for many things I do in my life now.

After doing some research I find that it is a sewing rocker. Some were folding rockers and this is not. It is very strong and doesn’t make creaky sounds, so it is in great condition for being as old as it is. Most of my furniture is antique or I have pieces of antiques and work around them with modern twists. I can’t seem to hide from what I love to live in and look at. Old pieces have a quality that new ones just don’t have. Besides, my thinking is they have lasted, in some cases, hundreds of years and the new ones last only 6 months. We have become a throw away society which is shameful for these beautiful pieces and when something like this comes to me, it is to be savoured. So I stick with the solid foundations of craftsmanship and history of the item.

I do sit in it and I actually have sewn in it. It is small and child-like but sturdy and made out of oak. This holds its own at Sheckyville in the library with books from her and others from before and photos that I have gathered through the years. I count myself lucky. Thank you dear Cousin Susie for making this so special.
A little pull up a seat for Friday.

Beautiful chair. The details are lovely.
Thank you 🙂
Wow, lovely antique chairs.
A glorious looking chair! The embroidered seat looks in amazing condition! What’s best though are the family memories! Enjoy rockin’ 🙂
Thanks, I love the history story as you well know! 🙂
Yes! and it’s a bonus that it’s an attractive and functional item too 😉
Yes and its also handsome and functional too 🙂
Wow, it’s a beautiful chair! I would be proud to own it. I so agree, today’s furniture isn’t so classy and beautiful, and built to be tossed too soon in some cases which is a darn shame.
