Also known as “sugar syrup” which, simply stated, is sugar dissolved in boiling water for ease of blending sweetness into teas, coffees, lemonades, cocktails, and other cold drinks.
Cakes benefit from it for moistness when layering and you can change the flavor of the syrup to each layer if you want. That is always fun to do.
Cocktails use simple syrup for flavoring such as Mojitos, Daiquiris and many more. I use it in Margaritas and Manhattans and use a bit of it in a Gimlet. You should have the available standard simple syrup so you can make these at home. Having to control the sweetness of a cocktail by adding just the amount you like is another perk.

Basic Simple Syrup
A must have staple in the kitchen.
Equipment
- Pot
Ingredients
- 1 c Sugar
- 1 c Water
Instructions
- On stove top boil water and sugar together until sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool
- Place in sealed jar and refrigerate.
Notes
Unless you want a clear syrup you can use organics and Sugar In the Raw. The color of the sugar will determined the color of the syrup.
If you want a thicker syrup, just add more sugar.
Refrigerate up to a month.
