There is something about a fountain pen that makes you slow down.
Maybe it’s the little ritual of filling it with ink. Maybe it’s the way the nib glides across paper. Or maybe it’s simply that a fountain pen feels like an object meant to be used, not tucked away and just admired.
That is part of why I am here.
Welcome to the new Mrs. Shecky at Old Hands Studios.
I am a photographer, maker, journal keeper, collector and someone who is happiest when my hands are busy making something. Some days it’s a journal, a crafting project, an old book waiting to be restored in a new body, or a new one to be made – or -playing with far too many fountain pens – is that possible?
I’ve always been drawn to things with a little history and a little character. Worn books always. Old books are a favorite of mine. Handmade things can’t be beat. The imperfect marks left behind by someone’s hands on an object of desire heightens my curious mind.

And now I want to share some of those things.
This blog won’t be about being an expert. It is about being curious. I’ll share the pens and inks I’m using, journals I am making, things I am crafting, photography I’m taking for the crafting, and sometimes the garden’s yields and fails, along with whatever catches my fancy along the way.
Some of it I hope will be useful.
Some of it will probably be completely unnecessary.
And some of it will probably involve buying another fountain pen when i absolutely did not need one.
That’s okay.
There is still plenty of room in life for things that simply makes us all happy.
So pour yourself a cup of something, pick up a pen and come along.
Enjoy,
Mrs. Shecky
