~Fountain Pen Day~

Tis Fountain Pen Day! A special day for people who can spend twenty minutes choosing a pen to write a five-minute journal entry. My kind of celebration. But who started it? All these years I’d never heard of it and now needed to know – so sleuthing I went via the www and here is what I found:

Cary Yeager. That’s the man to blame – the ink instigator (in a good way).
He gave fountain pen lovers something extra to put in their calendars when he founded Fountain Pen Day in 2012. Held on the first Friday of November, the celebration is to encourage people to enjoy their pens and share that enthusiasm with others. Known in the pen community as “Mr. Fountain Pen Day,” he has also worked in the writing instrument arena with Kenro Industries. His creation offers a welcome invitation to pick up a pen, put ink on paper, and introduce someone else to the pleasure of writing by hand.

A great interview can be found at the sources listed here. It was so much fun discovering who this man is and reading about him.

Onward with the celebration of this day:
I think our pens deserve a little outing. Use the fancy one. Try that ink you’ve been saving. Write something ridiculous in your best handwriting. Even “I have no idea what to write” looks rather lovely in a good ink.

Here’s a little journal challenge: Give three of your pens a job. Which one would write a love letter? Which would sign a confession? And which would write a shopping list, then insist it was literature?

A blank page, a few favorite pens, and permission to play. That’s a celebration I can get behind.

My pen of the day? I haven’t decided. TWSBI? Montblanc? Esterbrook?
And there it is …I am down the very deep rabbit hole once again.

Just remember, Inky fingers count as party attire.

Til Next Time…Enjoy Fountain Pen Day…
