~Vinyl Memories In Check~

After the material on this bench went kaput, it was time to not only update it but give it some weather proofing material. Getting tired of taking cushions off every night and then putting them back on in the morning, prompted the lazy in me for another material type for the outdoors.
So against everything negative I have thought about vinyl in the past, I went for it and hope it will last the Fall & Winter season through.
Vinyl Nightmares: This just came to me while writing this post…it happens. Anyway, the last time I had anything to do with this type of material was in the mod days when I won a contest wearing all vinyl. It was so hot, colors of orange and yellow, and a John Lennon Hat. It was the Twiggy thing. I had the whole outfit including Beatle boots. I looked awesome being miserable *laughing* and to top it off, I won the fashion contest. It was so hot I couldn’t walk in it at all not even to accept my award on stage. Embarrassed as an 8th grader, my friend Karen went up to get my award and I swore off vinyl and entering contests forever. Gives me shivers now to think of it. Didn’t Billy Crystal once say “It’s better to look good than to feel good”? *at least I can laugh now* Onward…..
DIY
My local hobby store not only had picnic table material in upholstery sizing but it was on sale to clear out their summer stock. 4 1/2 yards later I had a covering made for my wooden outdoor table and a bench seat covered for under $14.00. *sales are my friend*
Super easy cut. Very generic staple gun will do the job. No more wine stains
This process went pretty fast. Since it is vinyl it is simply a cut and staple DIY. Vinyl? Yeah, it’s plastic so there aren’t any hems and it’s a good thing because I don’t want to work at this. Just cut it, pull tight, and staple. If you do not have a cushion you need to purchase a good 3″-4″ foam padding, then cover. Mine had a good cushion still on it with a piece of wood, so it was very easy to do. This new “modern” vinyl is also lined and not stiff at all like the old days – (maybe if they had this quality vinyl back in the day I wouldn’t have suffered as much as an 8th grader *maybe?*).

The new fencing is finally up and is now the backdrop for the bench until I get bored of it. I like change *wink*.
In any case, it is a new pull up a seat in Sheckyville and for the material, I am happy the way it was easy to work with and the way it turned out. It tested well for my breakfast. We will also see how the triple digits this weekend feel on my bottom, and yes, if it burns, I will shout it out on my Instagram in my 8th grade voice. But I am looking forward to not bringing the cushion back inside. If this works, I may change more out, we shall see.

Happy pull up a seat in vinyl to you. Do you have any vinyl memories? I can’t be the only one here that wore vinyl back when! or am I?!
Dig the dirt and stay healthy and do some DIY too.
Til next time…

I totally misread your article. I thought the “vinyl” you mentioned were old music albums. I guess vinyl means different things to different folks. I did enjoy the article and your writing style. Keep up the great work.
It’s funny, that’s a thought I had when I wrote it too haha. I call records vinyl too ☺️
Nice idea. 😊
That is nice and very creative.
Thanks Teresa! It was very easy to do, no sewing ☺️
Nice work, the bench looks nice! Happy colors. Mmmm French Toast!
I know, I never eat french toast… but I had bread. Twas really really good.
