~Come Back Time~

Before the hot days of summer is the time for serious garden work around Sheckyville. Mrs. Shecky does not like the hot weather at all so the heat is no time for her. However, Spring is so nice with bulbs popping up and flowers with all their color springing upwards, it is hard not to get outdoors and do some work.

In a “stash” area off to the side of the yard, a few pull-outs have been sitting in piles and pots. Many are succulents. These succulents do so well here and the burn area is where they will get transplanted. Cutting and just sticking them into soil works well for a quick planting. Just these plants will make a good hillside. The one shown here in the container was planted just a few years ago and it has really grown.

The Rose garden has been horribly neglected since the fires, but with some special attention it will shine. Roses are already budding with just the little work from last week’s cleaning up.

This one particular rose below has weapons as thorns. They are so large that if caught by them it would hurt some. But the plant will be cut back and will lose a lot of those and hopefully have new healthy growth. New gloves would be nice all in leather but finding a smaller size is difficult. It is not hard to poke through these.

Bags and bags of tulips and gladiolas have been planted in another vacant area. When they come up seasonal bulbs will be planted next to them. If fore-thought was in the works when planting them initially 4 seasons of bulbs would have gone in at the same time. As it is, this year the planting of 3 seasons will go in and then the area is good to go for the future with color all year long.

The fruit trees smell so good right now and this apricot tree is so pretty to look at each day. The bees are in abundance and I can’t blame them.

With future jams in the picture, pruning worked from last year’s crop. Hopefully some jam jars will be filled this year.

In a few days work this will be done and then it will have to be done again. Such is the nature of plants and gardens at Sheckyville.
